DWCS WEEK 3
Jamal Pogues vs Paulo Renato jr
Pogues is 26 years old, he’s 8-3 and this will be his second attempt to get a contract on DWCS. His first attempt was 3 years ago and it was successful, but Dana did not think he did enough to get that contract. This is what Pogues had to say about that “From that fight on, it kind of gave me a chip on my shoulder. I must not be good enough or they would have accepted me. Despite what people may think or say, that’s what I took away.” Pogues is a wrestler. He started training mma young. He’s a black belt in bjj and has fought tough comp in his young career. Has good cardio
Renato is 28 years old and is 10-1. Renato is your classic DWCS fighter. He has fought absolutely nobody. The majority of his opponents have losing records. He fought as low as 170 pounds in the past. I wasn’t able to find much tape on him. I found a full interview in Spanish and one of his fights from 2016. In that fight he looked decently explosive, but he wasn’t massive for 170. Oddly enough he doesn’t look like the smallest heavyweight.
Should be an easy win for Pogues who has all the tools to grind out Renato. Pogues has also shown an excellent chin. Pogues easy parlay piece
Bo Nickal vs Zachary Borrego
Nickal is only 1-0 in mma, but everyone knows his name. He was 3 time ncaa and 3 time big ten champ at Penn state. He now trains at American top team and has been training with Jorge Masvidal since day 1. It showed in his first mma fight. Bo didn’t look to wrestle at all and instead knocked his opponent out with easy. This is what Masvidal had to say about the kid “ He's going to be the type of guy to take you down once, and that's all she wrote, you know? He'll either submit you, or just that whole round you lost because you're not getting away from this guy. Mix in with the hands he's starting to develop, because the kid has natural power. I work with him a lot, from all the wrestling he's just like this dense f***ing little white gorilla. He hits, it hurts, man." Nickal is very confident stating he will be best pound for pound fighter in the ufc in 5 years
Borrego is 3-0 has to first round knockouts and a Dec win. Watching his fights he’s explosive on the feet and he says he’s confident in his bjj. His professional record may be 3-0, but he has 3 amateur losses and has been choked out and knocked out as recently as last year. The knockout was bad. Kid that knocked him out was sloppy and was able to get right through his defense.
Set up fight. Odds are insane but Bo wins this round 1 very very easily
Anvar Boynazarov vs Erik Silva
Anvar is a LEGIT kick boxer and Muay Thai practitioner. He has a split Dec win over Giga back in 2015. He trains at tiger mauy Thai and has transitioned to mma with 3 first round knockouts. His 21 second win over Pham in the lfa was beautiful. Knee right up the middle followed by brutal punches. Kid has legit power and technique in the striking world. Ground game is a complete unknown
Erik Silva, not to be confused with Erick Silva, is 8-1 and has 4 rear naked choke wins in a row. What I like about Silva is he isn’t just a bjj guy. He has some really nice takedowns. He likes to go for the single in open space and the double against the cage. Has good entries that he does not force! He waits for his opportunity and is willing and capable of striking a bit to set up his ground game. Trains out in Costa Rica. I can’t remember who it is, but another recent dwcs contestant trains out there as well. Put in small work with James Krause when he got to the US for this fight
Besides Bo, this is the fight I’m looking forward to the most. No way does this go to the cards. The under will he chalk, but
Needs to be hammered. Anvar is tough as nails and his striking really scares me. With that said silva has the tools to win this. Don’t mind finish in round 1 for either guy and fight ITD is a lock
Clayton Carpenter vs Edgar Chairez
Carpenter has been nothing but impressive in his young career. Go to YouTube and watch some of this kids fights. He has slick submissions and has power in his hands. Very aggressive because he’s confident no matter where the fight ends up. He trains out of mma lab with the likes of benson Henderson and Mario Bautista. Dwcs really stacked this 3rd card with contenders
Chairez is 8-3 and is a kill or be killed fighter. All 8 of his wins are by finish and he was finished himself in 2 of his losses. He’s fought some pretty decent competition and is on a 2 fight winning streak. Like carpenter he has power on the feet and is explosive with submissions. He loves throwing flashy techniques and he’s landed spinning back elbows and flying knees in actual fights. Explosive dude. He is training partners and very good friends with Brandon Moreno.
This is a firefight. I lean toward carpenter because I think he will have a wrestling edge and is a little more polished on the feet, but Chairez is a very live dog. He is tough as nails and has real legit power. The line is too wide for me to take carpenter, but I think it’s another under spot. This fight won’t go to the cards
Karolina Wojcik vs Sandra Lavado
Wojcik is only 5 ft tall, but she is very well rounded and has fought stiff competition. She was in an absolute war with Chayanne “Buys” (for convenience sake) and lost a close Dec. she has a good chin. She moves well on the feet in and out and has good takedowns and a good ground game. She is a -215 favorite in this fight and I get it. Lavado will be much slower, but she has long arms and uses her reach well. Could be an issue for Wojcik. Lavado has also shown a tricky ground game. This fight is too high variance. Big time stay away for me
