For those of you who are new to the game or want a refresher, I have the rules and how to enter picks below.
Here are the basic rules of the contest:
Everyone starts with 3 picks. If all 3 of your fighters win, you will continue to have 3 picks for the next event. If 1 of your fighters loses, you will be down to 2 picks moving forward. If 2 of your fighters lose, you will be down to 1 pick. If all 3 of your fighters lose, you are out. Last man standing wins the pot, and the tournament will run like this until there's a winner!
You will not be allowed to pick anyone over a -300 favorite. -300 on the dot is allowed. This makes things a little more interesting
If you pick an underdog that is +150 or greater (and they win) you will gain an additional pick for the following week. This is capped at one additional pick per week regardless of how many underdogs you take. If all of your picks hit week one and you have a fighter +150 or greater you would then have 4 picks the following week.
How to submit your picks
We will be using MMA BetClub again, and if you are already signed up and in the Never Hedge Survivor Club from previous seasons, you are all set. If not...
1. Go to mmabetclub.com to create an account or log in; if you are creating an account, you can enter the code pTgVUk (case sensitive) where it says Invite Code
2. If you already have an account but aren't in the Club, go to the Clubs tab, click on “Join a Club with code”, and enter pTgVUk (case sensitive)
3. To enter your picks, make a bet of $100 on each of the fighters you are taking that week based on the number of picks you have left
Your picks will auto-save as a draft when you enter the Bet amount (allowing you to think about it), but they will not be visible to other users or confirmed until you lock them in with the Lock icon button or the Lock All button at the top, at which point you get the odds that you see at that moment; your “Win” amount serves as a timestamp of what odds you locked in on even if the line continues to move, so anything less than $33.33 (-300) on your $100 bet won’t count, and anything $150 (+150) or over will give you a chance at a free pick. If you want to start over with picking before locking in, use the Clear Drafts button at the top. In your account settings, you can also choose to hide your picks from other users until the section of the fight card (Early Prelims, Prelims, Main Card) is locked and nobody can make changes.
4. If a fight gets canceled last minute, which has happened a lot over the last year or so, you will want to have a replacement pick. Because of this, I recommend that you enter at least one “backup” pick. To designate a backup fighter, place a $50 ($51 for second choice, $52 for third, etc) bet on them, and the Win amount range to qualify will be ½ of your original picks. If the event is already in progress and completely locked on the site, please email me your replacement pick(s) if you didn’t have a backup designated.
You can grab early lines, but if you lock in an early line, that’s what you get even if odds move in your favor, so locking an early fighter can work for or against you.
If you also want to play in another Club/league/contest on the site, you should create a separate account, because your picks from any profile will carry through to all Clubs you participate in while signed in. Once you lock your picks in on MMA BetClub they are FINAL, so make sure you are certain.
There will be no buying back in. Once you’re out you’re out, but you can buy in as many entries as you want prior to the start of the league.
